1)There should be a typo in the question since $240 cannot lead to meaningful answer. I changed the value to $420 instead... Let the number of lipstick A be x Let the number of lipstick B be y x + y = 7 … (1) 45x + 80y = 420 … (2) (1) => y = 7 – x Sub into (2), 45x + 80(7 – x) = 240 45x + 560 – 80x = 420 -35x = 420 – 560 = -140 x = 4 Mrs Lee bought 4 pieces of the $45 type, and 7 – 4 = 3 pieces of the $80 type. 2)Let the money that A,B C have are $A, $B and $C respectively A = B + 15 C = A – 8 = (B + 15) – 8 = B + 7 A + B + C = (B + 15) + B + (B + 7) = 160 3B + 22 = 160 3B = 138 B = 46 A = 46 + 15 = 61 C = 46 + 7 = 53 A has $61, B has $46 and C has $53 3)Let the number of $2 coins be x.
